Reseaarch Workshops

Advanced Databases for Humanists

Humanistic data presents special challenges when we’re designing databases: database software is created to store information that can be described precisely, while humanities data is fuzzy and complex. Database software is targeted toward the present, while humanistic data often explores the distant past. This workshop will introduce designing fuzzy, complex databases. We will explore the special problems that humanistic data present and look at a number of case studies to see how we can approach these problems with better data design.
