DataNet: Data Conservancy

Description or Abstract of the Project:

This project draws on the "UCLA Data Conservancy Astronomy Data Practice Interviews Round 1" datasets, which were recorded in multiple locations, primarily Southern California. The interviews were collected for the first 18 months of research on astronomy data practices as part of the Data Conservancy, which is one of the two NSF-funded DataNet projects. These projects are conducting social science research on data practices to inform the design of repositories to curate those data. The UCLA group is examining data practices in Astronomy and Astrophysics, focusing on users of large archived data sources and sky surveys. The project attempts to understand what these research communities consider to be their data, their criteria for selecting and trusting data, the data-related problems they consider to be solved, and those they view as most important to be solved.
