Librarians in the Research Library answer reference and research questions through a variety of means. They provide assistance with research methodologies to identify, select, and use appropriate sources for student and faculty needs.
Drop-In Research Help
Librarians are available during scheduled hours at the following locations:
- Weekdays: librarians' office suite on A-level (room A1540)
- Weekends: first floor Reading Room
Librarians can also be reached by telephone when they're not assisting users on site.
Send an Email Question
Send your question to the Research Library, and a librarian should respond within twenty-four hours (except for weekends and holidays.)
Chat reference is always open, through the UCLA Library's membership in the national 24/7 Academic Reference Cooperative. Because this is a cooperative service, you may be chatting with a librarian from another academic library.
Schedule an Appointment with a Subject Librarian
Subject librarians offer a variety of services designed to help UCLA students, faculty, and staff access information resources and use them more effectively. Assistance may range from locating a needed fact or specific source to designing a search strategy for retrieving information on a broad topic. Subject librarians also develop the library collections and provide customized classroom instruction.
